February
We'll be reading various "Blue Spruce Award Nominee" books as read alouds and looking for adjectives (descriptive words) to make our writing better. We'll focus on sentence structure and grammar this month, taking our writing to the next level. We'll also start our Language Centres again.
January
We'll start the year off with some growth mindset alouds and brainstorm some New Year Resolutions and goals.

We'll then start our Media Literacy unit and learn about common advertising techniques in order to design a food product package. We'll also start reading about Celebrations around the world, just in time for Chinese New Year.

We will spend the month practicing, memorizing, and acting out our Winter Play - A Very Beary Winter! We'll add in some festive and snowy read alouds too :)

We will finish up our Descriptive Monster Writing, continue with Language Centres, and begin a unit on Retelling Stories: describing the characters, setting, plot of events (First, Next, Then, After that, Finally), and Conclusion/Resolution.

This is a fun project where students design and draw a monster, then describe and write in clear details what each body part looks lie (ie. colour, size, shape). Their writing will then get passed on to another student who will have to draw the original monster based on the descriptive writing. It's hilarious to see the comparison!

- Dolsch Sight Words *the most frequent words used in reading and writing*
- Word Family Endings (ie. -at, -ig, -est, oat, ube)
- Silent/Bossy E words (ie. rat/rate, kit/kite, tot/tote, cut/cute)

This month we'll be starting an "All About Me" writing assignment and presentation. Looking forward to getting to know your child!
